Klixon 115C limit for Invensys pump is for full thermal protection when pump overheats. When pump is operated for over 1-1/2 minutes it heats up. The Klixon turns the power off to protect the pump. The power is reconnected as soon as the temperature of pump cools off. This large Klixon is not included in the ULKA pumps. We recommend replacing a bad ULKA pump with a Invensys pump for better & quiet function and extended life.
To replace the old ULKA pump, use thermally protected Invensys pump 120V 55Watts (part #CP3A).

1- Descale the machine every two or three months, for optimum water temperature and full jet of steam. Regular descaling helps to eliminate 70% of malfunctions and extends the life of the machine. It is the single most important maintenance for all espresso machines. Cleancaf, Cafiza, Joe Glow, Brew Rite, Pulycaff are products sold as descaler but they contain only Baking soda which is totally ineffective. Automated electronic descaling does not clean espresso side of the machine.
Use of Vinegar, R.O water or Distilled water does not eliminate descaling. It damages the boiler wall and gaskets.

2- Avoid using dark roast oily beans. Oily beans and fine powdery grind setting makes over extracted coffee and clogs coffee grinder, cause malfunctions and damage to grinder. Strong Coffee is made with less water (2-Oz or less).
3- Do not refrigerate beans. They absorb moisture and clog and rust the grinder burrs. Clean coffee grinder (Built in or stand alone) every three months.

5- Calibrate the quality of espresso every day by making espresso in a Shot glass. A shot glass limits the coffee size and allows visual check of espresso quality, showing the color of espresso and the thickness of Crema.
